Weird episode!

Post by Adamant »

I've never cared for Song in the Dark because it's creepy, but I always watched it because, of course, Adam takes precedent in the episode and it highlights his loyalty to his friends. Nevertheless, I always doubted that Adam's plan to "gaslight" Mr. Johnson would have been successful in reality (yeah, I know--it's just a tv show!) and that Adam took a big chance letting Mr. Johnson take a shot at him--after all, he did hit Adam's friend in the arm. The whole "plan" by Adam to have Mr. Johson confess is just silly, in my opinion, and stretches credulity. AND THAT SONG IRRITATES ME AS MUCH AS IT DOES JOE AND HOSS! Geez, Louise, doesn't the man know another song?
There is an interesting Joe moment in the beginning when Mr. Johnson starts "preaching" about evil, etc., and Joe looks down in disgust and keeps his head down. It might be interpreted as his sorrow for the murder of the widow, but I don't see it that way. There is also the moment when Mr. Johnson puts Adam's guitar on the ground and Adam quickly picks it up and dusts iy off. There are also other "telling" character moments in this episode that are revelations about the inner feelings of the Cartwrights.
We never really grow up; we just learn how to act in public--anonymous
