Little Joe's horse is a Pinto.
He is named for the key war leader during the Apache Wars, he led an uprising that began in
1861 and persisted until a peace treaty was negotiated in 1872.
Pinto
A Pinto horse is defined by its coat color, which features large patches of white and
another color, such as black, brown, or chestnut. It's not a breed itself, but rather a color breed,
meaning any breed of horse can be a Pinto if it exhibits the characteristic color pattern.
The Pinto Horse Association of America registers horses based on this color pattern, not on breed lineage.
