Joe's Easter Flowers For Marie

Post by barb »

I've posted this before on a different site, but would like to post it here at Boomers for Easter.

The boy gently laid the flowers by his mother's headstone. It was a beautiful spring day, and the birds were singing in the distance.

"I'm glad I can bring her Easter flowers. Pa, do you think she likes them?" Little Joe questioned.

Placing his hand on the young boys shoulder, Ben replied, "Yes son, I'm sure she does."

"Pa, why do people have to die?" Joe asked.

"Everything has to die sometime Joe, but life continually renews itself. Remember when we came here this winter, how brown and dry the ground was? Just look around you son. See how green the grass is, and all the beautiful wild flowers growing. Even through death, we are given the promise of beauty and life. Your mother's life is renewed through you Joe, and someday through your children. Understand? Tomorrow is Easter sunday, listen carefully to what the reverend says."

"Now young man, let's head home for some lunch!" Ben said with a smile.

Oh boy! I'm starving, and I want to beat Hoss to the table this time!" Little Joe dashed off toward his pony.
