Showoff ... or just dang good?

Post by pony »

There's a saying among athletes that it ain't braggin' if it's true.

That always makes me think of Joe Cartwright and his exceptional skills in riding horses and shooting. The fact is, ML was NOT a good equestrian when "Bonanza" first started, but he obviously took his role seriously and I don't think anyone can deny that he turned out to be pretty dang good. He and Cochise had some cool moments (my favorite is in "The Gamble," when he does that risky Indian trick of hanging off the side of the saddle to hide behind the horse as he makes his getaway). And of course, Joe was fast 'n' accurate with that six-shooter; my favorite is when he shot the beer mug ("Oh, you woulda died of a real bad case of slow.")

What are your favorite trick-riding and/or shooting Joe scenes?
Life is good.
