Question about Adam's departure

It may be a dumb question, but I've searched the Internet and the Boomer forums and haven't found the answer. And I'm a newbie, so I have no reputation to risk. So I'll ask: was it ever explicitly stated that a quarrel between Adam and Ben led to Adam's departure from the Ponderosa? If not, are there any fanfics that describe such a quarrel?
