:wow I never knew that! Does anyone else have any memories to share? They must have been a lot of fun to watch! (That's what you get for being a little sixth grader who never got to see the end of the show! :mad Thank you for sharing your recollections with us, Big John. :yes

My favorite memory was of the Chevrolet commercials they aired on the show.

I don't exactly know how to post YouTube links, but I'll try:

Interesting, Big John. I don't remember anything about rumors of murder. I was 12 when he left the show, and all I remember was being told in the spring of 1965 that he was going to leave the show. Well, I didn't believe it at all. I refused to, I guess. And I waited impatiently for the next season to start. And the devastation, well, he may as well have been murdered, because it was like having someone die and you go to eat dinner and they're not there. And you realize they never will be again.

I've learned only recently this murder theory, but, knowing David Dortort, he couldn't do that to his fans.

:welcome Big John!

Interesting to hear your memories, glad you shared. I was 8 at the time, and kept watching for a time, thinking eventually Adam would reappear. Then I remember my grandmother telling me as a grown man, he just couldn't take saying yes Pa, no Pa, etc. anymore. Bonanza was never to be the same draw for me with Adam gone.

Welcome Big John!

My memories are a little different, as I live in Germany. About nine years old, I did not get, PR had left the show and I too did not realise he will never ride up again, so I watched a few episodes from season 7, always hoping he would show up. I remember the episode, when Ben reads a letter of Adam - hope . Finally I had to believe, he had left - I quit watching Bonanza, broken hearted.
