and welcome to Boomers, Linda. All the reasons for Adam wearing black sound good to me. Personally, I would love to have seen Hoss in blue (to match his eyes) ... I bet it would have really suited him!

Hi Linda

to Bonanza Boomers. I'm not sure why they dressed Adam in all black, but I'm glad they did. As much as I liked Adam in the Red/Tan/White shirt ... there's something special about him being in all black. Sort of like the bad boy and we know Adam was far from that!

Although Adam can wear anything he pleases, I much prefer him in the colored shirts and dark vests of the earlier episodes. I really just got tired of seeing him in black all the time.
He's so handsome, and he should vary his wardrobe occasionally.
Very Sexy

I've read a few different things about why the actors were always in the same outfits after a while, and the one I lean toward is that it let them use stock shots and save costs. But as for wardrobe, as a textile junkie, getting the official DVDs and playing them on the husband's mega TV was so eye opening. The weave of just the shirts, as above, in the first episodes is amazing and apparently very accurate to the period. The items the guest stars and extras wore have a level of texture and natural colouring that was the level of Silverado's textiles (and that was good). WOW. Love Adam in black, but come on, a little variation is the spice of life .....

WOW! We have alot of reasons and opinions to why Adam wore black. But I am with all of you......he can wear whatever he wants, he looks good in all the clothes. After all...its his heart we all fell in love with, now isn't it! Thanks for the feedback! Linda

Adam could wear a tow sack for all I care and he'd still look good.

I like him in everything he wears. I think that by wearing all black, he established his identity as the Cartwright brother who was just a little different than the other two. I also think it gave him an air of mystery.

Welcome to the world of Bonanza, Linda, and a great place to discuss a favorite topic! I don't know the answer to 'in all black' myself - I agree that he actually looked better in some of the colored shirts. I have a feeling he went to wardrobe one day, yelled, "hey, where's my favorite tan shirt!" And that was that. Generally actors didn't have a lot of say over their wardrobe, although maybe that's not true for TV series as it is for movies. They had to do something for consistency, and Pernell probably didn't mind the choice - went with his black hat!
