Alan was born in 1921. His father, Alan Hale senior, was an actor (one of his well-known roles was that of Little John in Errol Flynn's The Adventures of Robin Hood, and he gave his son an early start as a child actor. Alan Jr. is best known for his role as Jonas "The Skipper" Grumby on Gilligan's Island. He wore the hat from that role even in his private life. He was also in just about every Western you can think of. Alan Hale Jr. passed away from cancer in 1990.
