I have a real problem with this one. I don't know if it is to do with gender politics at the time. However I feel unconvinced that Prudence will find everlasting happiness with Lafe or Rafe or whatever his name is. He has spent the majority of the episode depising her and at the end of it we are supposed to be hopeful for them both? He even ignored his own child! This was a really silly outcome.

I didn't care at all for Lafe's attitude towards his wife. The only thing good about the episode was Hoss and the beautiful horse.

I could never understand what Prudence saw in that angry, hostile man! She deserved so much better.

Yeah, Lafe was a bitter man. But Prudence married him, so I think she saw good in him at the time. And you have to admit, Prudence was a force of nature. Prudence is the reason I like this episode.

I like that this one was filmed outside and off the sound stage. Cowboys out on the range riding horses - that's what I like. Oh, and that ending shot is priceless.

A Hoss episode. Years ago, when I still had cable TV, I did not like "The Wild One." Mostly because it seemed like it had a choppy narrative, and I thought TVLand--in its infinite wisdom--had cut out scenes.

Watching it now, uncut on those glorious DVDs, the episode is not choppy, but it's still not one I care for too much. It is watchable, though, thanks to the impressive location filming at Red Rock Canyon in the Mojave Desert, and the gorgeous Kathryn Hays, though not in that order.

Adam and Joe appear in the amusing pre-credits scene which introduces Lafe. Ben appears with Joe and Adam in the equally funny finale at the Ponderosa in which Ben, Joe, and Adam all express their individual styles of disbelief at the wrecked living room, the prone Lafe and Prudence, and the crying newborn upstairs. Topping it all off is the striking appearance of the wild black stallion in the front doorway.

My Rating: 5/10

Those dvds Are great to see the shows uncut! I really understand what is meant by Hollywoods’ directors etc when they say that many movies and shows are re-edited for TV definitely changes the story and emphasis the original had in mind. There are a few episodes that I never realized Adam was in or someone else because of editing for commercials. Not a favorite episode but several scenes outside are neat. :cool1

Through the magic of cable, they have movies listed as Directors Cut. Try to watch those. Those show the scenes that were cut during editing before going to the theaters. Once I saw a funny movie "There's something about Mary" and I watched it not realizing it was the Directors cut. I watched it a 2nd time and there was one amazing scene that was totally cut and I called the cable company to see why they cut it and it was explained to me that it was the Directors Cut that I originally saw and I could see that by hitting 'more info' on my cable guide box.

So although this is totally off topic, I wanted to share.

Re: The Wild One. I'll have to pop in my DVD and watch it. :grin

I thought Aldo Ray's performance in this episode was incredible. True, he was mean and cruel man towards both his wife and child, as well as his animals, but in the end, thanks to a little help from Hoss, he realized that he did indeed love his wife and baby, and didn't want nobody taking them away from him. Hoss had that way about him, bringing families back together again.

I especially liked the ending though, when his father and brothers come home to see the living room torn apart from end to end, and the only explanation Hoss gives was that it was a lover's spat! :rotfl
