I'm a teacher, a musician, a student of literature and history, and the oldest child in my family, but I've left my beloved homestead behind awhile to "go to college back east." Every once in a while, when I have to look up from my stacks of Shakespeare and Aristotle, I start to miss big skies, the pine trees, and the smell of cows. But the Ponderosa is my home away from home. Watching the antics of Hoss and Little Joe is almost (not quite, but almost) as good as having real little siblings around to laugh at.
I thought from childhood that I was pretty much the only person in the world who loved Adam. People always said, "Little Joe and Hoss and Ben and...that other fellow, what was his name?" I thought it was me against that big ol' Hoss-Joe-Will-Candy-Jamie-loving world. But I'm glad to come here and find that I was wrong.
Just for fun, I thought I'd compile a short list of quirks and experiences I've got in common with Adam. If you have any of your own, I'd love to hear about them!
Trying-to-read-poetry-and-do-something-else-at-the-same-time, resulting in injury (I feel ya', Adam.)
That feeling of despair when the student sounds terrible and you "certainly can't sing for him..."
Tough job ahead=time to quote Shakespeare's Henry V !
Black is a wardrobe staple
Holding onto an angry side of beef (that's still alive) is tougher than it looks
Broken musical instrument=anguish
Ask for help, I'm a total pushover. Ask me to violate my conscience, and I 'm a block of granite.
Man of few words/also somehow the family consultant whenever words are involved
I love singing
I love my bacon crispy
And why stand up straight when there's a perfectly good something there to lean against?
