Favorite line:
Hoss: "Joe, why do you have to eat chicken? We're trying to break 'em of being bird dogs!"
Joe (from the middle of a pile of wreckage on the floor): "Well, I'm sorry, we were fresh out of coyote!"

I sometimes wonder about the lifts they put in the actor's boots. Bruce Yarnell was 6' 5", and Dan Blocker was 6' 4", and yet Muley seemed to tower over Hoss, even though he was only supposed to be an inch taller. Those must have been some lifts they gave Yarnell, or, lack of lifts they gave Blocker. Sorry, just my little observations. :grin

And CowgirlAtHeart, that's one of the best quotes from the episode! :lol
"Anybody can have a child but that doesn't make him a father!!!" -Hoss Cartwright- "A Dream to Dream"
"I've read the last page of the Bible. It's all going to turn out all right." -Billy Graham-

It's a funny thing about those lifts- They weren't consistent with them. In the first season they didn't use them at first, then you see Pa as tall as Hoss a few times. Then in other seasons little Joe became as tall as Adam and Pa. ML sure fooled a lot of people, only in real life non Bonanza or Little House related appearances do you get an idea of how tall he might be. IMBD has him as 5'11". Did he grow 2" since 1960? In a photo with all of them without costume he looks very short next to Pernell, who is consistently listed as 6'. Also if you watch The Crucible when Joe rides Adam's horse; he looks like a little kid on it. They had to adjust the stirrups I'm sure. PS. I quit watching regularly after we moved to Florida in 1967 since it was on at 10:00 in the EST zone. I was 11-12 years old and that was too late with school the next day. Not to mention that I was not as interested with Adam missing. Double whammy.

Michael was actually 5'9" and when Bonanza started he played the part of a 17yr old. They later all wore lifts. In some episodes Michael was almost as tall as Hoss. It's a wonder he didn't trip and break an ankle!

Wait a minute, wait a minute. What you're saying is that at your age, you don't know the difference between a girl and a horse?

What a fun episode! I had to wonder tho about the dogs rushing into the house and breaking everything. When Joe crashes through the stairs and lands on his bum, there is a china vase broken beside him and I thought, what a shame. That may have been a piece that Ben had bought in the Orient on one of his sea excursions.
Is that all you can think about at a time like this, cake???

Watch closely and you'll see that the vase actually broke before Joe fell. It makes me wonder how many vases they broke before they got it right! :rotfl

Keep in mind that I am watching these episodes on TvLand and that there are many scenes edited out for medical reasons.

I'm wondering if PR was not around for most of the shooting of scenes around the table. He generally sits at the opposite end of the table from Pa but this time he didn't, it was Joe and he is sitting extremely close to Muley. When they did shots of the family around the table the side of the table that PR was on was kept out of many of the shots. Its like they shot many takes of the table and edited some to have PR in them. Kinda weird and a little awkward. I like the episode although PR is at the end of his Bonanza run and I prefer the first 6 years. I especially like Tracy and Abner
