Adam POD 13-17 July The Search

Post by EllieK »

The loquacious American newspaper lady – Henrietta Stackpole (introduced to us by Henry James’ The Portrait of a Lady) - has returned from Europe rather frustrated. The well -mannered Europeans were put off by this garrulous American female who seemed to prefer to talk than to listen.
Failing to gain insight into the inner life of Europe, she has now turned her attention westward, landed a job with the Virginia City Territorial Enterprise and has achieved an appointment to interview Mr. Adam Cartwright. Miss Stackpole has taken a particular interest in Mr. Cartwright’s recent experience in seeking his ‘image’. A man by the name of Tom Burns took advantage of his Adam Cartwright look a-like features. Burns, parading as Adam Cartwright, helped himself to Adam’s bank account and made some necessary purchases hoping that he would eventually be able to repay Adam. Sadly for Tom Burns and for Adam Cartwright, events did not permit Burns to keep said promise.
(Note: All caps are by Yours Truly)

Adam Cartwright: Would you please allow me to respond? I was pretty shocked to hear that I'd been beat up and broke and accepted an offer for a horse for which I was $50 in debt.
