I just found the following details about some "behind-the-scenes events" in a discussion to this episode on YouTube. Though I do not know whether the source is reliable, I at least tend to think there may be some truth in it. Judge by yourselves:

"May have been from an old People Magazine, [...] Apparently the first couple of times the spanking was tried for Shooting, it did not look authentic so Joan, being a trooper, said go for it, make it look real. Pernell was reluctant so Joan hatched a plan to loosen him up. She really hit him in the gut to make the spanking look authentic. Apparently it so annoyed & suprised him that he blew his line and actually smacked her hard 5 or 6 times. Listen to the last 2 smacks - one whimpy and one good one! It worked a little too well, she said she felt it for days!"

I read somewhere also that she said that spanking hurt! I guess that poke in the gut made him mad!

:laughing That's crazy and yet funny too. I'm sure not a lot of women would be willing to do that nowadays.

I like this one. Not so much for the spanking or the other physical humor but for the talent these guest stars brought to the set.

Love the way they're taking off on Shakespeare in this one. There are so many hilarious moments. Some of my favorites are:
. Margarita's connections coming to Adam on their knees and Adam saying "Oh, get up!".
. Adam acting so solicitous of Margarita over breakfast while he does everything he can to upset her.
. Adam pushing Margarita, and later Don Luis into the water...then getting pushed in himself!

Joan Hackett was such a great actress and a beautiful woman. She was a perfect Margarita.
