He had no qualms about shooting Ross Marquette or Jesse Sanders and he actually liked those men.

That's Adam's [could be] fatal flaw - his stubbornness. When Adam said he would turn the thieves over to the law, I think Kane saw it as a challenge, since IMO Kane would have had no problems with killing them. So Kane pretty much dared Adam to kill him, and Adam was in "I'm too civilized for that" and would not back down.

Honestly, if it were me and I had access to that pick and hammer that Adam used in the mine, I would have knocked Kane's head off.

The episode was just on today. I am kind of shocked at what I had forgotten about this. Like shooting the mule and how much Little Joe was in the episode. Weird but it felt like I was watching it for almost the first time. I guess there were some parts that just hit me so hard that the rest falls away.

And I have said this before but what is with the Cartwrights that when they get a huge sum of cash they have to talk about it so the bad guys hear them and go after them. I mean have the bad guy in the bank and just happen to over hear a talkative bank teller announcing the cash amount. You still have a story.

You'd think after one or two instances of being overheard by bad guys the Cartwrights would learn to be more careful! :ha
What, are you practicing to be a burglar, bettin' that kind of money on a two-card draw?Joe, "Queen High"

I agree that it would be a good idea if the Cartwrights were more careful and learned to lower their voices when discussing their cash in public places. :grin

The problem was the Cartwrights were honest and they also weren't eavesdroppers. They were operating as men with high morals. People like tht can be a bit careless because they assume that other people are honest too. If a Cartwright saw someone flash a huge wad of cash, it would never occur to him to follow the guy and bushwack him. Even if the Cartwright in question found himself in a strange town and short on funds, it wouldn't cross his mind to steal.

That's those Cartwrights, so honest that they make themselves targets!

I know! I'd have lost it long before Adam did. I'm not sure what I'd have done, but I would not have the patience to try and outsmart Kane.

I don't think I would've done that. Considering it was Lee Marvin, I think he would've done it first! :grin
Wait a minute, wait a minute. What you're saying is that at your age, you don't know the difference between a girl and a horse?

The ending; when Adam was in his father's arms and bursting into tears, sounded so genuine,it left me anguished.
