I liked this one in the beginning. But the ending was creepy. Tearing that beautiful portrait to shreds, and trying to destroy Ben so he'd have to marry her. Not a kind thing to do. Downright nasty, is what I'd say.
Wait a minute, wait a minute. What you're saying is that at your age, you don't know the difference between a girl and a horse?

The countess was just what Ben called her: a conniving witch. She was trying to destroy Ben because he chose to marry Marie instead of her. The painting was a bit creepy anyway; it was best destroyed.

The one thing I did notice about the painting, is that it truly did bear a resemblance to Lorne Greene, and even a touch to Pernell Roberts, showing the similarities between the two men. Just a weird little observation.

I looked at the painting again just now, and I agree...I think the picture does look a bit like Pernell. Funny!

I like Ben's description of her as a "conniving witch". She was that all right. It's a good thing he didn't marry her, but found another true love with Marie.

My favorite part(s) are when Hoss whoops Runyon's butt. First at the camp, then briefly in the barn before dragging his hind end off to jail. Nobody calls Hoss "fat boy" and gets away with it!!! :no :pounce

I watched it yesterday -- I decided to watch some random episodes before starting the marathon. I liked it very much. My observations:

• The Countess was a dubious character from the beginning. Before she was even on the wagon to the Ponderosa, she mentioned that her husband is dead, now.

• She tried to manipulate the boys into liking her. It didn't work, because she made her intentions too obvious.

• The episode skirted the "There's no such fool like an old fool" trope. At some moments, it looked like Ben would allow himself to be trapped in that spider's cobweb, but he didn't allow himself to be completely blinded.

Maybe I like the episode so much because, like so many people, I've gone through this: Meeting somebody you once loved again -- 20 years later. It's a small world, even if you thought you'd never see each other again, you are likely to bump into each other again. And sometimes you wonder why you split up in the first place since the feelings still seem to exist. Well, you used to love each other for a reason, and it's fueled by love of the past, nostalgia.
