I love this episode for the Cartwright stuff, which has mostly been mentioned.

But it makes me a little crazy that they cast Martin Landau as a hispanic guy. He does a good job, and the make up is pretty good (unless you're looking for flaws), but there are a couple of scenes where his blue eyes look very strange. Also, I'd love to know what they put on his shirt, because his horse was all over him a couple of times!

I kind’ve liked the contrast between his skin and eyes. You almost wondered what side he was on since he had a devious “past.” We’re used to seeing Mexicans with dark skin and eyes, but even Mexicans with mostly or purely European blood can have some light features. Of course the most tragic part is what happened to the horse, but at least Ben got to see what his sons intentions were.

I suppose. My problem is that I watched Landau on Mission Impossible and Space:1999, and every time they did a good close up of his eyes it'd remind me of what he usually looks like, which was distracting.

A powerful episode. My first time seeing it. Always a pleasure to see Martin Landau. I thought he was only great in this role, blue eyes or no. And natch TV Land cut out the shirtless Adam part so they could fit in more commercial time. I will have to watch it You Tube.
Another powerful father/son ending bringing tears to my eyes.

TVLand fails to see the importance of certain parts of episodes. I think they do this on purpose! :mad

I just sneaked a quick peak via You Tube on my cell phone. That scene can't be much more than thirty seconds long. Well, worth the wait, I might add, but come on, TV Land!

This ep is one of my favs. It encapsulates everything Cartwright. Family, togetherness, caring, friendship and love. Plus it's packed with action, drama and tragedy. The cherry on the top - one of the best JPM's of the show. Love it. :hearts

I often go to IMDB for additional info on the series. Tonight is the second time that a reviewer has called Lorne Greene an over the top hambone. I don't know about you guys, but I just don't see it. A reviewer for The Gift said that LG was a big, fat canned ham. Gee! I love Lorne's acting. I think he's wonderful as Ben Cartwright. I realize that some of the episodes can be pretty silly, but it looks to me like Lorne is doing his best and at his most natural making us laugh. Anybody out there in Bonanza fandom think LG was a ham?

Obviously, the person who said that was not a fan and shouldn't have bothered to review at all! A ham he was not! Lorne, himself was not only a terrific actor but was greatly respected by many people. He was also a father-figure to Michael. He made an impact to a lot of people and will always be remembered. :thumbup

Lorne Greene was a wonderful actor. That's a powerful Joe and Pa moment at the end of the episode!
"Like father like sons." Echoed by Little Joe in "Springtime"
"Now I know that we are only half brothers, but we are brothers." Adam in "The Hayburner"
