Bat Masterson ~ 1958-1961

Post by Tracy » Fri Jan 10, 2014 8:56 pm

Bat Masterson starring Gene Barry as a dressed-up dandy,
gambler, and lawman who roamed the West charming women and defending the unjustly accused.
His primary weapons were his wit his and cane, rather than his gun.

Bat Masterson is based on a real person (info below)!

The series ran from 1958-1961,
and his character appeared later in episodes of Guns of Paradise (1989) and
The Gambler Returns: The Luck of the Draw (1991) -- both times, played by Mr. Barry!

The theme song ran at the beginning of the show, and again, at the end - played over the ending scene.
So dramatic!

William Barclay "Bat" Masterson was a figure of the American Old West known as a buffalo hunter,
U.S. Marshal and Army scout, avid fisherman, gambler, frontier lawman, and sports editor, and
columnist for the New York Morning Telegraph.

The real Bat Masterson was born on November 26, 1853, in Henryville, Quebec, Canada
and died on October 25, 1921, in New York City, NY. Here's a picture of the real Bat Masterson.

I was wondering why we never saw Gene Barry on Bonanza. Mr. Barry was busy on his own series,
Burke's Law, playing Capt. Amos Burke from 1963-1966. Mr. Barry reprised the role of Amos Burke
in a remake of Burke's Law, playing Chief Amos Burke from 1994-1995.

Thanks for posting this, Tracy! :cheer

Hubby and record each episode of "Bat Masterson" on our DVR. We absolutely love the theme song! He lets it play, at the end of every ep!

I have to say, though, that when I hear the name "Gene Barry" I always think of Burke's Law, as our family used to watch it, while I was growing up!
