We meet David Cassidy in The Law and Billy Burgess. It's a common Cartwright theme, but a good one. Poor Billy is a troubled teen without a solid (and quite handsome) father image and Ben steps in to save him. Actually, it's an interesting episode with a young David Cassidy who is lucky enough to attend school on the Ponderosa.

David Bruce Cassidy is an American singer, actor and musician who rose to fame in the 1970s and still tours today. First let’s get to a few vital statistics: born April 12, 1950, 5’6’’, brown hair, hazel eyes and was born into show business. His first love is acting, but that may be because his mother is the actress Evelyn Ward and his father was the famous Tony & Emmy award winning star Jack Cassidy. He didn't have much of a childhood, was raised by his grandparents but found out from a neighbor that his famous parents had been divorced. After an extensive education in theater, he started on Broadway in The Fig Leaves Are Falling with his mother. Also starring is Dorothy Loudon (center).

Not long after, he moved to Hollywood and took teen parts in shows like Ironside, Medical Center, The Mod Squad and Bonanza. In 1978, Cassidy starred in an episode of Police Story titled A Chance To Live, for which he received an Emmy nomination. David always has a project going on somewhere. Young Cassidy was also fortunate enough to have starred in the play Time in London with Lawrence Olivier in 1987. This was Oliviers’ last performance before his death and the play was a huge success. If David Cassidy ever went through an awkward teenage phase, I didn’t see it. His father remarried to another famous actress, Shirley Jones.
David Cassidy returned to series television in 2009 for a season of Ruby & the Rockits yet another teen sitcom. Brother Ryan is a set designer, Patrick stars as his brother, and Shaun is the director. "This was the first time that all three of my brothers and I ever worked together. It has been our dream and desire to do this for many years and it couldn't have been more fun," said Davie Cassidy. "I wouldn't trade that experience for the world."

It was almost four decades ago that Cassidy rose to stardom in another family show, "The Partridge Family," and became the biggest TV and performing phenomenon in history.
He set the record for filling Albert Hall on consecutive nights. Before the age of 21 he set another record as the highest paid solo live performer. He starred with his step-mother for four years before heading back out on his own. Every now and then he'll show up at a Partridge Family reunion style show.

He takes good care of his family, but spends most of his time on the road touring - singing or acting. Check a local listing, chances are that he’s playing somewhere close.
