Gregory Walcott Bio

Gregory Walcott was a guest on Bonanza 7 times. His first appearance was in 1960 as Farmer Perkins in Death at Dawn, and his last was in 1972 as Will Cooper in Riot. His other appearances were Ed Thornton in Thornton's Account; Wade Turner in A Darker Shadow'; Sheriff Crowley in My Friend, My Enemy; Capt. Fenner in Amigo'; and Danny Morgan in Song in the Dark. Here he is as Sheriff Crowley in January of 1969:

Born as Bernard Mattox in 1928 in North Carolina, he grew up with lots of family close. He served in the US Army just after WWII. He headed to California after he got out and became a well known character actor. During his life, he was in over 300 television shows. He played a wide range of parts from modern in 30 episodes of 87th Precinct to westerns. His westerns besides Bonanza included Rawhide, Tales of Wells Fargo, Wagon Train, and Laramie.

He continued working in TV until 1994 with some of his last work in Dallas and Murder She Wrote.

He also was in over 50 movies. Some of the most notable, but few in a long line, are Every Which Way But Loose with Clint Eastwood, Mister Roberts with Henry Fonda, and Norma Rae with Sally Fields.

Gregory married his wife Barbara in 1954. She passed away in 2010. They have 3 children.
