Hi, my name is Joyce. I live in the Netherlands and was born in 1977.
My grandmother loved watching westerns, on German tv. There were not many on Dutch tv unfortunately. On one day my grandmother watched Bonanza when I came in to visit her. I was about 12 years old I think. I watched it with her, and immediately loved it. I watched a lot of episodes with her. It where the episodes from the later seasons. Little Joe was my favourite character. Then my grandmother passed away and I stopped watching Bonanza.
Years later I spotted a Bonanza DVD. There where episodes from the first seasons on it. For the first time I heard the real voices (everyhing on German tv is dubbed in German language) en I saw Adam for the first time. I really liked watching Bonanza again. I also started to read fanfiction.
Then I met my husband, and later I was busy with caring for my 4 children. I forgot Bonanza although I watched many episodes of Little house on the Prairie which was aired on Dutch tv (Bonanza never was after the first broadcast in the 60’s and 70’s).
And then one day, I was telling my children things about my grandmother and suddenly I thought of Bonanza again. To my pleasure I saw that many episodes where on youtube and I got hooked all over again! I almost saw them all, and also read a lot of fanfiction again.
My favourite is still Little Joe, but I also like Adam very much now. I see him differently now Iam older. And Bens voice…wow. And even Hoss, such a sweet man. I just like them all!
Funny what age does with your opinion about Bonanza. I really appreciate the storylines now very much. When I was younger it was just the action and Little Joe what made me watch Bonanza.
Unfortunately there is no one who loves Bonanza in my area. They don’t even know what it is about. So Iam happy that there is a site like Bonanza Boomers where I can share my love for Bonanza.
